HISTORY
When Lord Lyndan of Rinme went on a trip twenty-one years ago, leaving his young wife behind, he said it would be brief, two weeks at most. However this trip soon became extended, first to two months, than to four, until he finally had to return home, some say against his will. This return was brief however, as a few months later he left again. This time, when he returned, he brought with him a newborn infant: his son, whom he named Kastel.
No one in Rinme knows the true identity of Kastel's birth mother, save the father himself. Most say she was a maid, perhaps even a whore, though there is a retelling of the story that casts her in the romantic light of a dancer, so beautiful and graceful that Lord Lyndan fell in love with her at first sight. However mostly the story is not discussed, as the shame of an illegitimate child shadows all else.
Kastel was amoung those who did not know his mother's identity and as the years went by he forced himself to not care, to stop listening everytime a mention of her was made, to stop wondering what her name was, what she looked like. It was easier this way, to deal with both her absence and the taunts of those around him. All through his life, Kastel was never allowed to forget what he was: a bastard, whose birth had sealed his House's disgrace.
After Lord Lyndan returned with his firstborn son, five more children were born, his heirs. First were twin boys, Kresley and Asrien, rowdy boys who too often would risk their lives for a thrill. After followed another son, Dante, and two girls, Elenya and Ireniel. Their lives were filled with lessons as they became proper lords and ladies, something Kastel could never be.
For the most part, Kastel did not envy his siblings, especially the twins. He already possessed the traits their tutors tried so hard to instill: strong will and quick wit. However, Kresley and Asrien did have one thing that Kastel coveted more than he would ever admit: they were to become dragon knights, to fly in the skies, far beyond the frozen ground. As they did this, all Kastel could do was watch and perhaps be covered by their shadows every now and then.
While they prepared for this role, Kastel was made to learn the bow. He rode on the ground while they flew and kept all his dreams locked away, only allowing himself to see the present as both stories of the past and hopes for the future were locked away, left to wither in the darkness and cold. Kastel became quite skilled with the bow, enough that this trait was praised without scorn by those around him, not that he cared.
As his twin brothers grew, Kastel was assigned to guard them, to keep them from harming themselves, which they were want to do as in their recklessness, as they seemed to be fond of causing as much trouble as humanly possible, sometimes intentionally, more often not.
PERSONALITY
Kastel is a very quiet young man, only speaken when spoken to and always doing so with utmost manners and respect. Many of his answers had been well-ingrained in his mind that he was able to make them without a second thought. But more often he was silent, observing the world around him in a calm manner that some might call "confidence," except for the fact that he always seemed so helplessly defeated.
Kastel's thoughts are sometimes very disconnected, like parts of a puzzle with some pieces missing. His personality can be quite changeable as well, as he can go from being gentle one day to arrogant the next, though mostly he stays the same calm, silent creature he has always been.
Kastel is quite obsessive about his family, focused on them and what they have, wanting to love them, to serve them, and most of all to obey. He often seems trapped in a world that he does not belong in, though perhaps he merely has been lead to beleive he does not belong. He uses his obedience to shut out anything else that he might want, anything else that he might feel, seeing himself as unworthy of anything more than his present lot in life.
APPEARANCE
Kastel has long, golden hair, which he refuses to cut despite its impracticability. His face resembles his father's: handsome, regal, though slightly feminine, however Kastel does not share his father's usual friendly expression; more often than not, his face is blank, showing nothing. Kastel is of average height and build. He dresses unremarkably, usually wearing either black or white, but never grey.
